Everyday Revenge

Revenge occurs everyday to a certain degree. Whether it is an noticeable act or a subtle one. The instinct of most people is to get back at someone who mistreated you, or embarrassed you. I believe that revenge in everyday life is a very common thing. Throughout the day you see people giving bad looks, talking bad about someone behind their backs. These people often were victim to someone who had a bad attitude whether that's their personality or they are just having a bad day.

When this happens to someone they instinctively plot to turn the tables on the person who made them feel inferior. This could be played out by saying something "smart" back to them, spreading a rumor, giving them a wrong answer if they ask for help on something. Some people can go as far as to try and turn everyone against them. I have seen it played out many different ways in high school.

I have witnessed specific incidents in our school, such as when one girl puts down another girl, it resulted in a lot of horrible rumors being spread and it had to be taken to the principal. This incident split a really close group of friends and created a lot of bad blood. Petty stuff like this happens all the time in life and it could be over the stupidest things such as a supposed mean look. Even if to one person an action someone says or does is elementary and doesn't affect them personally, to someone else it might make them feel insecure or targeted. The way each person reacts and executes their revenge is different, but in the end it is all the act of revenge.

  1. I can definitely agree with this, and I also have seen many incidents like this occur in our high school throughout the four years I have gone to this school. It mostly seems to be with just groups of girls, and when it does deal with a guy, it is more or less likely about a girl. These sound childish, but in a way, it helps us grow up a little bit, at least it should.

  2. I agree with Sarah. In many cases revenge is started on the pettiest things and the esculate. Revenge happens when people jump to conclusions and over react. Problems arise with he said, she said incidents without anyone taking the time to check facts. It's easy to say that revenge and petty argument can stop with smart, rational people, but it seems that everyone's first reaction is to get back at whoever did you wrong. Because of this, revenge will be a long lasting problem.

  3. Great post, Sarah. it opens one’s eyes to the everyday revenge that we can’t seem to live without, particularly amongst teens. I am even guilty to such quick thoughts of revenge. What’s even more depressing than the revenge itself is the motivation behind it. You’ll find it, like you mentioned, will be over the simplest and silliest of acts. Sometime high school can be even more dramatic than Shakespeare!
